Coffee, filtered.

My guilty pleasure first thing in the morning is coffee, freshly ground, brewed and filtered. Admittedly, there have been many versions of these through life from vending machine sawdust water in college, to instant coffee in a flask during the wee hours in residency, to a moka coffee in the Italian countryside, to the current freshly ground favorite! If there is anything that ruins a fresh cuppa it would definitely be coffee grounds floating in the delciousness!

Much like poorly filtered coffee is unfiltered speech. In my journey towards improving conversational skills, I have found the 2/3 rule helpful.

Ask three questions and only if 2/3 are affirmative should it be said.

1. Is it true?

2. Is it kind?

3. Is it necessary?

Once it has passed this test, ask the next question.

Is it timely?

I am learning that patiently waiting for the right moment to voice a filtered thought works wonders…much like my morning coffee!!
